October 18, 2002 - US Airways Stand By Vouchers

US Airways has announced a new mandatory procedure to take effect immediately for those who wish to stand by for an alternate flight on the same day, and are using non-refundable, restrictive type fares. Travelers will not be allowed to go directly to the gate and pay the additional change fee of $100 to stand by. The new procedure forces the traveler to go to either a US Airways ticket counter, or a city ticket office to purchase a Special Service Ticket (SST) prior to checking in at the gate. Gate agents will not have access to the SST’s and stand-by customers will be sent back to the ticket counter to purchase the coupons.

The SST’s are nonrefundable and cannot be used towards the purchase of a new ticket, or towards change fees on nonrefundable tickets. All SST’s must be purchased in person at either a US Airways check in counter at the airport, or a city ticket office. SST’s are transferable to other travelers and up to 10 vouchers can be purchased at one time, and are valid for one year from date of purchase.
