In light of
the recent announcement from US Airways regarding new policies on
restrictive fares, the following are tips and guidelines to assist
you in your travel planning. Although no other major carrier has
announced that it too will adopt these changes, we fully expect
to receive similar announcements in the upcoming weeks. Effective
yesterday, August 27, 2002, US Airways announced that all non-refundable
tickets must be used for specifically ticketed flights or the entire
value of ticket is forfeited unless changed in advance.
Continue to
plan your trips in advance in order to take advantage of the lower
fares - but be firm in your travel plans. Remember, all of corporate
America is now dealing with these same issues and most business
meetings will be less likely to change.
Use low cost
carriers. Since they have had the same rules in place for restrictive
fares, it is likely that they will not change their policies. Most
low cost carriers offer lower, more flexible fares.
Use of GTM’s
special third party faring option. Although these tickets are non-refundable,
they currently can be changed for a minimal penalty fee.
Don’t settle
for full fares! Non-refundable fares can be up to an 80% savings
over full coach fares. If
your plans change prior to the scheduled flight, contact your GTM
representative who will provide you with alternatives to losing
the entire purchased fare.
Book whatever
carrier still offers the flexibility of allowing non-refundable
tickets to be used for future use.
With fare rules
changing on a daily basis, it is highly recommended that you read
and review your itinerary. Information contained on your itinerary
will advise you of what restrictions apply to your reservation.
Your GTM representative will discuss the fare rules with you during
the reservation process. GTM’s strictly enforced policy of recapping
each booked segment will continue to be followed, including an emailed
confirmation sent to you for review. As information becomes available
on the changes within our market-place, we will continue to keep
you informed. Should you have immediate questions, please respond
to this email, contact your account manager or speak to a GTM team
consultant.
