The US Transportation Safety Administration has recently updated its list of items that may and may not be carried on airplanes. Passengers may be happy to know that some personal items like tweezers, small nail clippers, nail files, safety razors and eyelash curlers that were previously banned as items that are allowed to be carried on, are now OFF the prohibited list. Items that remain to be banned from carry on luggage are knives, scissors, box cutters, corkscrews, or most anything that is sharp edged and could be used as a weapon. The list also includes most sports equipment such as hockey sticks, ski poles and baseball bats. These items will not be permitted to pass through security check points, and in addition to criminal penalties, passengers who attempt to bring items that are not on the approved list aboard an aircraft can face fines of up to $1,100 per violation. ©2001 Gateway Travel Management.
