February 4, 2002 - US Airlines Begin Rebuilding Schedules

Major US airlines are starting to rebuild their schedules this spring after a 20 percent cut in capacity after September 11. American Airlines said yesterday it was adding a total of 52 flights to its schedule at Dallas-Ft. Worth Airport, La Guardia Airport, New York and Logan Airport, Boston.

United Airlines is set to announce plans to add flights at Chicago O'Hare Airport and Denver International, its two largest hubs. Delta Air Lines plans to launch new service from Atlanta to Milan, Italy, while it considers other schedule additions. Northwest Airlines says it has added about two dozen flights to its schedule and is considering adding more.

Industry experts estimate that it could be three years before the airlines return to operating the 23,000 flights that departed each day from United States airports before September 11.
