January 17th, 2002 - Air Canada Requires Passenger I.D.

Air Canada announced today that passengers traveling to the United States will be required to provide air carriers with basic personal information.

As a result of new US regulations, persons traveling from Canada will now be required to collect five basic pieces of information from each passenger traveling to the US for the purposes of ensuring aviation safety and security. This information will be provided to US Customs in advance of the aircraft landing in the US.

Upon check-in for a US destination or for a flight with a travel itinerary that includes a US destination, passengers will be asked to provide their full legal name, gender, birth date, nationality and travel document number (passport number, certified birth certificate with picture ID). A valid passport is the preferred document for all travel outside of Canada but all currently acceptable valid travel documents for entry into the US are still acceptable. US bound passengers should continue to arrive at the airport a minimum of 90 minutes before their flight departure.
